ABOUT ME

An Architect by profession and a Designer at heart. Music, salsa, cooking, traveling, reading, talking and walking. And ofcourse, Photography. "I am an exile; A nomad: citizen of the country of longing." (Maximum City, Suketu Mehta)Born in Raipur (Central India), studied for 11 years in a Boarding School in Ooty (South India), a year of study in Rajasthan, 6 years studying and working on architecture (a year with Sandeep Khosla) in Bangalore, a year and half working in Singapore, a Masters in Strategic Design in Milan, Italy and now finally working in Shanghai.Seems like such a long journey, full of experiences - both good and bad!22 years now. Someone who believes in living each day as it comes. Not delving too much in the past or reading too much into the future. Just go with the flow if you have to fall anyway. Atleast this way you might just reach the sea!Me and Photography? Credit for that would go to my friend Umesh, who I met 2 years ago, after13 years. He convinced me to buy a better camera and thus began my photographic journey. In Milan, I also worked with Italian Photographer Claudio Bonoldi - an inspirational figure - for someone who can be so good and so humble at the same time.Would love to have any feedback, tips, suggestions, or just comments.

A mosaic of pictures from my travels around 16 countries and 33 cities. Some truly memorable times, some tough ones. Nothing can be more real than seeing things with your own eyes.

What I like best about photographing people, especially children, is their spontaneity and naturalness. I mostly use the 50mm lens since it brings me closer to them. I am more comfortable capturing those candid moments. I have had the good fortune of meeting some wonderful people in the many places I have been to, and these photographs are dedicated to them.

Being an Architect myself, this is something that comes naturally to me. That doesn’t require much effort from me. Architecture is also something that has laid the foundation for the rest of my photography. For I believe that my strength and my entire photographic journey begins with these 2 words - composition and light.

Many years ago, before I actually got into photography, a friend once commented, “Your pictures are very journalistic!” I don’t know what made him say that. But it probably has something do with me as a person, since I love to write and talk. Or may be ‘cos I am always ready for adventure. I try to look for a meaning or story in everything. If ever I had to change professions, this would be it.

Something I started more recently. More challenging for me since it involves everything that is not associated with ‘candid’ or with me. Yet, even in these pictures I try to capture the spontaneity of my models in that moment. A lot is also from what I learnt from Claudio in Milan. Pictures mostly taken for a Jewelry Shoot in Milan, a Portfolio shoot in Shanghai. & other commercial shots for a friend's company.

When it comes to nature and landscape, there is often a disparity between what we see and what we capture. The important thing is not just to capture a scene, but to capture the mood. Travel photography is more an extension of my landscape & documentary pictures. Travel is what I do to live, survive and re-live.

Wedding Story

This is something I realized how much I enjoyed only after my childhood friend Abhey’s wedding in 2009, hence this album is dedicated to him. I believe weddings are an intimate affair, which deserves to be captured in a really personal manner – real genuine emotions. That’s what I try. There are also other pictures from events and concerts that I have attended in Milan and India.
